Rachel Bailey D.O.
Dr. Bailey joined Eureka Family Practice in 2010. She and her family moved to Eureka from Menomonie Wisconisin. Dr. Bailey is a board certified Osteopathic physician. Osteopathic medicine offers the added benefit of hands-on diagnosis and treatment through a system of therapy known as osteopathic manipulative medicine. Dr. Bailey attended Winona State University in Minnesota and then West Virgina School of Osteopathic Medicine finishing in 2005. Her residency was completed at Union Hospital Family Medicine Residency in Terre Haute, Indiana. She is married and the proud parent of two adorable young girls. She and her family enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including camping.
Edward Olsgard MD
Dr. Olsgard received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 1968. He has been practicing in Eureka since 1974 and is the senior physician at Eureka Family Practice. He is married, and enjoys bicycling, rowing, traveling, and gardening.
Leo Leer MD
Dr. Leer received his undergraduate degree in Zoology at UC Berkeley and attended Medical school at the University of Southern California. He then completed residency in Family Medicine at the San Pedro Hospital/Harbor UCLA medical Center. He is board certified in Family Medicine and Geriatrics.
Dr. Leer and his family moved to Humboldt County in 1992. He has been a member of Eureka Family Practice since 1994. In addition to his duties at EFP, Dr. Leer was a member of the North Coast AIDS Project Board of Directors through the 1990’s and briefly chaired the Board. He was also Chief of Staff at St. Joseph Hospital in 2004 and 2005. For the past 10 years he has been President and managing partner of Eureka Family Practice.
Dr. Leer’s wife, Nancy, teaches in the psychology department at Humboldt State University and in her spare time lovingly tends to her beautiful garden. Their daughter, Jane, grew up and left home much more quickly than her parents were prepared to accept!
When not working Dr. Leer can either be found bicycling, fly fishing, or eating.
Caroline Connor MD
Caroline began practicing in Humboldt County at Eureka Family Practice in 1996. She began her education at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she majored in History. In 1988 she moved to the University of Florida where she obtained her Doctorate in Medicine and met her husband, Alan Fischel, who is a local anesthesiologist in Humboldt County as well. They moved to Tucson, Arizona where Dr. Connor did her residency in family medicine and her Master’s degree in Public Health. Since moving to Eureka in 1996 she has thoroughly enjoyed her practice of General Medicine and now specializes in the treatment of difficult headaches. Dr. Connor is available as a consultant to you and your family for the management of all types of headache disorders.
Gregory Holst, MD
Dr. Holst was raised and attended school in Colorado.
Dr. Holst received his medical degree from the University of Colorado in 1995, and completed his residency in Family Medicine in 1998. Before moving here to Eureka, he practiced for 9 years as one of the only 2 rural physicians the very small town of Holyoke, Colorado. While in Holyoke he experienced all areas of medicine including ER, OBGYN, inpatient care, nursing home and outpatient family medicine. He moved to Eureka and joined Eureka Family Practice in 2007. He is married with two children. He spends off time renovating his house, working on his 72 Chevy pickup, and summer lakeside camping with his family.
Debra Barrow-Vrieze, FNP
Debra holds a Masters of Science degree in Nursing with further training and education in Family Medicine. Ms. Vrieze has extensive experience in critical care, surgical and recovery nursing, cardiac care and supervision of nursing care teams. She also has a special interest and expertise in working with chronic illness and elderly patients. Ms. Vrieze keeps assessment, diagnostic and treatment skills current through continuing education. “My commitment is to provide patients with quality medical care and follow-up. I take in to consideration all aspects of a patient’s health and lifestyle. I am dedicated to assisting patients in obtaining access to the health care resources that will maintain and improve their state of health.”
John Brimlow PA-C
John Brimlow was raised on the East Coast, the second of five children. During his youth, he enjoyed participating in the varsity swim team and Boy Scouts, in which he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. His training as a licensed Funeral Director was the basis for military medical training as a Clinical Specialist Independent Corpsman. After serving in Viet Nam, he further expanded his training as a graduate of the Stanford University Physician’s Assistant Program and relocated to Eureka. He has been a proud member of the Eureka healthcare scene in Family Practice with additional emphasis in Allergy and Asthma care for thirty-six years. He maintains national certification as a Physician’s Assistant with annual continuing education hours and the national certification exam taken every six years.
John feels blessed to be in a profession he loves and that stimulates him on a daily basis. Married and the father of three children, John appreciates the staff and patients he works with and that form a part of his larger “family.”
Katie Schoenfield FNP
Katie Schoenfield received her NP degree in 2009 and has been working at EFP ever since. Prior to this, she taught anatomy in the nursing program at College of the Redwoods. She started her Nursing education at HSU then achieved her Master’s degree and Nurse Practitioner Furnishing license at Sonoma State University.Her role at EFP is to serve as our "urgent care department," being available to see patients for urgent needs when their primary provider is unavailable. She also provides routine health maintenance and preventive care exams. She is married, has a teenage son, and enjoys long walks in the woods.
